Fill a rent receipt in your browser and download a PDF. Cash, check, money order, or transfer. Optional batch for consecutive months. Nothing is uploaded.
How to fill out a rent receipt
- Landlord / property name and address. The person or company who received the rent. Phone is optional.
- Tenant name. Who paid.
- Property address and unit. The home the rent covers.
- Receipt number. Your own sequence, such as R-0007. In a batch, later months add 1, 2, 3… to that number.
- Payment date. The day the money was received. A batch shifts this date by calendar months (31 January becomes 28 February in a non-leap year).
- Amount. The sum received for that period.
- Rent period. Start and end dates, or a calendar month. A batch shifts both dates by the same number of months.
- Payment method. Cash, check (add the check number), money order, bank transfer, or other.
- Payment for. Rent, last month's rent paid in advance, security deposit, rent arrears, or other. The PDF prints this on every receipt in a batch.
- Balance remaining. Optional. Use it if the tenant still owes part of the rent. It is printed in the selected currency; leave it blank to omit the line.
- Notes. Optional. Late fees, partial payment, or who handed over the cash.
- Received by and title. The name and title of the person who took the payment (for example Owner or Property manager). They print on a Received by line. The signature line stays blank so it can be signed by hand.

FAQ
Why keep a rent receipt for a cash payment?
Cash does not leave a bank record. A signed receipt is written proof of the date, amount, address, and period. Landlords and tenants both use that proof if a payment is later disputed.
Can a rent receipt be electronic?
This page downloads a PDF on your computer. Whether an emailed or downloaded PDF counts as a receipt depends on the lease and local rules. Some places, such as New Jersey, expressly allow an emailed receipt for cash rent. Check the rule that applies to the property.
What if a tenant asks the landlord for a receipt?
Ask in writing and keep a copy of the request. Fill this form with the payment details and give the tenant the PDF or a printed copy. Some states and provinces require a receipt in named situations; see the regional pages on this site.
Can this receipt be used for SNAP or other benefits?
Many offices accept a landlord-signed rent receipt as proof of rent paid. Requirements differ. Follow the instructions from the office handling the application.
Does this page upload rent details?
No. The form and PDF run in your browser. This page has no server for rent files, no cookies, and no analytics. Closing the tab clears what you typed.
How does a several-month batch work?
Set consecutive months to 2–12. Each page (or half page) is one receipt. The receipt number increases by one each month, and the payment date and rent period shift by calendar months, including month-end dates such as 31 January → 28 February.
What should I put on a rent receipt?
Typically: who paid, who received the money, the property, the amount, the payment date, the rent period, the method of payment, a receipt number, and a signature line. Regional pages list extra fields some statutes name.
Is this legal advice?
No. This is a form and a summary of published statutes. Check the current law or ask a local tenant or landlord office.
